The 12 Most Embarassing Exposures in Hip Hop

I knew about Cam’Ron’s comments on snitching on 60 Minutes, but I have never heard of let alone seen the video of him clearly cooperating with cops. Could it be that it was just a clip from Killa Season? More research is needed.

A Tribe Called Quest, “Scenario” Alternate Version

Unkut posted an unreleased version of A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario” featuring De La Soul, Black Sheep AND L.O.N.S. What’s funny is that I have had this for months and just neglected to post it. Actually, I didn’t post it because it’s of such poor quality.

Shout out to a good friend of mine, DJ Selecta, for the hookup, even if I slept.

Rick Ross Be Lyin’

LOL!

So it is true, Ricky Ross was a correctional officer. So what? This will all blow over in a couple of months provided that Rick can still make good music. I mean, if anyone with a teenage daughter can go out and buy R. Kelly albums (I have seen the video, he is guilty yall), then I am pretty sure the general public can overlook this fib and forgive the big man.

Edit: Wow, dudes are going for the jugular with this one. The Smoking Gun just released a ton of documents relating to Ross’ stint as a C.O., including a certificate of appreciation for perfect attendance.

Aesop Rock Gets His Own Sneaker

I thought it was strange when rappers started getting their own kicks, but “underground” rappers? Mr. Crooked Spoke Adjacent gets the Stan Smith treatment in the latest offering from Upper Playground. This is a limited run, only 500 have been made, so get ‘em while you can! Now if only the man would stop producing and let Blockhead handle the majority of his albums…

MFONE gets prison time!

Prolific graffiti writer Daniel Montano was sentenced today to 2 1/2 to 5 years in a state prison, five years probation, a restitution of $232,582 and 2,500 hours of community service.

We don’t talk much about graffiti on the podcast, but we are fans. Previous regulars on the show have been pretty prolific writers here in Pittsburgh. Pete used to go out pretty heavy back in the day and got himself into some trouble. I used to go out a little bit, but I would always get scared like a little punk.

My graff friends are in a rival crew to MFONE (you know how heads be beefin’!), but he was always a decent dude as I knew him in passing. This sentence is beyond ridiculous. I am not saying that he should get away unscathed and I am not here to debate the pros and cons of writing, but 3-6 months in jail and a commitment to clean up all areas he “damaged” hit would have been fine. The problem here is that MFONE kept on going, even after he was constantly arrested. The third time is the charm, I guess.

I do believe that this young man will have a hard time surviving in prison.

P.S. Go listen to Pack FM – Clik Clak Spray, I was going to post the mp3, but I can’t find it. You’ll have to wait for the next regular episode to peep.

New site redesign!

It’s finally here! I still have a lot of tweaking to do, but the website is done! I have never been a fan of more flashy websites, but this site adds a lot more functionality and practicality to the site.

Here are some cool things you can do now:

  • You can now stream every episode by pressing play button, located under every “get episode” icon.
  • All of the episodes have been categorized and can now be filtered that way . For instance, if you want to just view all of the man of the hours, you can simply click the link on the side.
  • The forum is back up! I will be eliminating the capability to just comment on posts in the next couple of days, instead linking to appropriate forum topics. I am pretty sure I will just be talking to myself for a long while, but it’d be nice to get some regular posting in there.
  • Down at the bottom of sidebar on the right, you can now do a search. This is helpful for any songs you want to hear from a particular artist.
  • A personal favorite of mine, there is now a hosts section. The “hosts” section are the album art I had appended to every episode of the podcast. Now they are all in one place for their viewing glory. Yes, there are billions of places to look at beautiful women on the internet, this is number one billion and one. If you have suggestions for hostesses, holler at me on the forum!
  • Also, expect a lot of non-podcast related posts from me, and hopefully others. I hope to have some hip hop reviews, commentary, articles and more.

There are still a few more features to come. As you will notice, the gallery section is not finished yet. It will have pics that we have taken around the studio as well as well as from some of the parties I have thrown.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the J. Pitts Show?

The J. Pitts Show is a podcast hosted by myself, J. Pitts. To learn more about the show as well as brief biographies of who we are, check out the About section of the website.

  • Why would you guys want to play hip hop? All it does is glorify violence and objectify women.

This is a broad and unfair generalization of an entire genre of music. Hip hop music is not limited to “gangster” rap, which is actually just one aspect of the music as a whole. Listen to a show of ours and be enlightened.

  • Why would I want to listen to this podcast? You guys play music from [insert artist here]. I am not into that indie-nerd-backpacker-buillshit!

To each their own. Nice Rec and I put down the pretension awhile ago. We are not into playing “real”
music (what does that even mean, anyway?), we are into playing what we think is good music. Listen to a show of ours, I am sure you will be enlightened

  • What is a podcast?

Quite simply, a podcast is a radio show in .mp3 format. On the J. Pitts Show, we generally play unedited hip hop music interspersed with random commentary with my co-host, DJ Nice Rec and friends have decided to join us for the episode.

  • How do I download an .mp3?

Simply right click on your mouse and hit save target as (internet explorer) or save link as (firefox) anywhere you see the icon on the website. The typical episodes ranges from 40-60MB’s, so be mindful of the amount of the space left on your program.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to download the episode, you can play the episode directly off of the website (or “stream” it) simply by clicking on the icon next to respective episode you want to play.

  • I keep hearing all of this talk about subscribing, what does that mean?

Subscribing to a podcast means that you set a program to automatically download new episodes of a podcast whenever they are released. This means that you do not have to return to the website on a regular basis in the hopes that something new has been posted. It’s a great way to keep up with your favorite podcasts.

  • How do I subscribe to the J. Pitts podcast?

To subscribe to a podcast, you need a program called a podcatcher. Itunes works fine for this purpose, although the newest version of winamp player and any number of 3rd party programs will also work.

In Itunes:

There are two ways to subscribe using podcasts. The easiest way is to go to the advanced tab in Itunes, click subscribe to podcast, and enter in this URL:

http://www.jpittsshow.com/blog/feed

Alternatively, you can go to the Itunes store on the left side panel, and do a search for “J. Pitts” in the top right hand corner. The podcast will be the first listing that you see.

  • What if I am using a program other than Itunes?

Good for you, because I am not a fan of Itunes myself. As mentioned earlier, the newest versions of winamp offer podcast support, and free programs such as Juice are more than capable of fulfilling your needs.
