State of the Blog #2

I was just listening to the R. Kelly episode here at work when I stumbled upon these lyrics from I’m A Flirt

“I don’t understand when a player brings his girlfriend to the club,
Freaking out on the floor with his girlfriend in the club,
And wonder why all these players are trying to holler at her,
Just soon as she goes to the bathroom player I’m gonna holler at her!”

Truer words have never been spoken!

So what’s coming up for the J. Pitts Show?

- A Christian Rap episode. Shout to my boy Mastermind and Big Sto from the Christian Hip Hop Podcast.

- Our boy DJ Phinesse will be spinning Baltimore Club Music on an upcoming episode.

- Be on the lookout for a bonus mix from my girl Laura of just Latin music. That will probably out later today.

- We’ve talked about doing it for awhile, Man of the Hour: The Leftovers will be forthcoming sometime soon!

- Episode 65 will be all Madlib. Episode 70 will be all LL Cool J. Who do you want to hear for episode 75?

Episode 60 – Man of the Hour: R. Kelly

Say what you want about the man’s private life, but R. Kelly has the jams. If I had to pick one musical artist responsible for children born after the year 1993, he would be it. Peep the episode and find out why!

P.S. Also, if I had to pick one musical artist responsible with having sex with children born… Ah, you know the punchline!

The Gallery is Now Up!

Do you see that little image at the top in snazzy letters that reads, “gallery?” It never worked before, but now it does. It takes a little effort to get the pics to their fullest size, this is a problem that I am already aware of. I will probably move everything to a flickr account in the next couple of days. In the meantime enjoy.

The Final Outcome – B. Johnson

Edit: Now it should REALLY be up. LOL.

Episode 59 – Nuggets

Yo, I got them nuggets!

No, I’m not the weedman, but I do have a different kind of drug for you, haha! DJ Nugget joins us at the workshop and spins the jams!

Sorry bub, we try not to post the playlists from guest dj’s! Although, if you check the tags on the post, you might be able to figure it out.

What I’m Into Right Now

Here is some cool stuff I have been checking out lately.

Zo! and Tigallo – Love the 80′s. Phonte Coleman from Little Brother covers some of your favorite 80′s hits. Nice Rec and I have been bumping this all week. My personal favorite is the cover of Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out.” DJ Selecta played the cover of A-Ha’s Take On Me way back on episode 19.

Check out Zo! and Tigallo’s Myspace.

Generation Kill – I am a die hard fan of anything David Simon puts out. I loved Homicide and I love The Wire. It follows that I love Generation Kill. Based on Evan’s Wrights best selling book, the show follows the first forty days of the Iraq War as seen through the eyes of the first reconnaissance batallion in 2003. These guys were the FIRST guys to enter into Iraq! While this show is much different than the two aforementioned cop shows, there are a lot of parallels between characters (Does anyone see a little Rawls in Lt. Ferrando?). If you have Digital Cable and HBO, it’s OnDemand, so check it out.

Check out the N.Y. Times article on “Generation Kill.’

Christian Sings the Blues – A blog by male porn star Christian Wians (aka Christian X). It’s called “…Sings the Blues” because he complains about the difficulties of having sex with beautiful women all day. Cry me a river, lol. He is somewhat of a pariah because he began his career in gay porn and as a result, some female porn stars won’t work with him. Obviously, there is adult content in there, so tread at your own discretion.

Check out his blog here.

Lone Wolf and Cub vols. 1 and 2 by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima – An assassin for hire travels from town to town with his child, killing people along the way. This series influenced a lot of martial arts and action media to come; the movie “Shogun Assassin” for instance, is an adaptation of Lone Wolf and Club, and therefore is kind of an indirect inspiration for the beginning GZA’s song “Liquid Swords.”

Ghostface goes R&B for next album.

So apparently Ghostface’s next album is going to be all R&B.

The Wu-Tang Clan rapper says the album will not feature his signature soul sampling sound but will be more in the vein of his remixes with Beyonce and Ne-Yo.

“It’s still gonna be street but it’s R&B though,” Ghostface told Hot 97 personality Miss Info. “I’m doing 13 cuts but its still street though. I got my ‘Wildflowers’ on it and all that. I’m just going in from all angles and shit”

I guess the man wants to change up the formula and I can’t blame him for that. The Ne-Yo joint that goes, “you don’t get a nigga back like that,” or whatever is pretty hard. So if it’s an album full of cuts like that, you won’t hear me complaining.
