Top 25 Rappers Who Should Stop Rapping

In an effort to step up my music game, I expanded the cloud of blogs I check for dope shit. I saw this link while randomly tag surfing through wordpress. I don’t agree with a good majority of dude’s selections, they mostly fit the underground “hater” stereotype, but the title alone made me chuckle.

What rappers do I think should stop rapping? I’ll name just three.

Tony Yayo – The only reason he has ever had a career is because of 50. Remember when he said he was going to call his second album, “50 Cent’s Tax Write off?” Well…

Murphy Lee – See Tony Yayo, but substitute Nelly for 50 Cent.

KRS-ONE – I don’t think he should stop rapping per se, but I think he should step his game up, or step down. I am also sick of hearing his old man views on youtube.

Flo-Rida – I really thought that Apple Bottom song was by Nelly. Stop playing around, you know that you only got a deal because of your look. Your flow is off, and you aren’t coming up with the catchy shit like Shawty Lo.

State of the Blog #1

Every so often I want to update you folks on what is going on with this blog and the podcast. Here goes:

- Just got done recording Episode 58 with Rec, Source, and Jerome. It’s an extra schlong episode, which means there is an extra microphone and about three more tracks than usual. Look for it on Tuesday.

- I have two segments debuting this weekend. A weekly editorial/commentary piece where I write an article about whatever I feel like, and the music video of the week. I know I said I wanted to have a top 25 countdown but none of us are too knowledgeable to get that poppin’.

- This blog might seem real hip hop-centric right now, but really, it won’t be. The is the J. Pitts Show blog and hip hop does not encompass my whole life. When I originally started the podcast, I wanted to have it be more talk oriented, with a little bit of music featured. Somewhere along the line it became the show it is now. Anyways, I am a real scatterbrain that is heavy into things like comics, wrestling, basketball, clothing and porn. I am just getting into the groove of things here, be on the lookout for new she-ut.

- For those going to Scribble Jam: DJ Nice Rec and I are in the preliminary stages of planning out a mix cd to give away at the festival in October. If you’re a listener of the show, there won’t be too much new stuff for you to peep, the point of the cd is to gain new listenership.

- Can anyone put me onto any dope indie rock and electronica blogs? I am trying to broaden my horizons, but it is proving difficult. I just peeped the new Beck which I liked. I also peeped Air France – No Way Down which was okay and Grizzly Bear – Friend which I need to listen to again before I give my full opinion.

Juelz Santana and Cam’Ron no longer a “thing.”

Miss Info is reporting that Juelz and Cam’ron have parted ways. Juelz mentions that he tried to take advantage of him, but doesn’t get into details. I think that Juelz is dope and can’t wait to hear his new album, “Built to Win, Born to Lose.” I used to hate him, the simplicity of his raps is off-putting at times, but his knack for catchy flows and hilarious rhymes makes it hard not to like him.

Here goes a pic of him with his mom:

Best Rapper Alive?

Vibe.com is having an NCAA style tournament to decide who the best rapper alive is.

Yes, it’s heavily biased against newer and mainstream rappers (no KRS-One, but Lil’ Boosie???), but it’s still interesting nonetheless. I am not familiar with Vibe’s readership, so I really can’t call who will win right now.  I don’t even have an opinion on who I want to win the whole shebang.

The best and most creative part is that the respective brackets are named after deceased rappers and the matchups within feature rappers from the deceased rappers region. For instance, the Pimp C. bracket has only southern rappers and the 2Pac bracket covers the midwest/west coast region.

The second round has already started and the next round (semi-finals) begin August 3rd so hurry up and get your votes in!
