Anticipation: Kanye West – 808′s and Heartbreak

Details keep getting released about Kanye’s upcoming album and they just keep getting more and more bizarre. Eskay from Nahright said this album will be the Love Below meets Electric Circus.

Here is what is known so far:

-The whole album, sans a verse from Young Jeezy, is sung in autotune. Lil’ Wayne is also on the album, and Herbie Hancock is also rumored.

- The whole album, as the title suggests, is about the breakup between him and ex-fiancee Alexis Phifer (see above). Aren’t they back together now, though?

- He unveiled the album at a listening party featuring, “forty naked women standing in front of a giant pulsing light box.”

- The whole album was recorded in three weeks in Hawaii.

- Every song on the album features 808 drums. “They have to be tribal…” Kanye told MTV.

- He has another album coming out in June.

My thoughts: This album sounds like it was really inspired. I feel like I am in the minority when I say that I absolutely “Love Lockdown” as a song. When I saw him perform it at the VMA’s with the panning wide shot, I was like “wow, this is fucking cool.” I am not a huge fan of the autotune, but Kanye West is a guy that has such a track record that if he wants to go in that direction, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. I loved all three albums from Mr. West and look forward to 808′s and Heartbreak.

Kanye West – Heartless. The second single off the album, it’s whatever to me.
