J. Pitts is a man of many different and diverse pursuits. As such, I have decided to give my thoughts on the best of 2008 in topics outside of hip hop (well, except for the music videos below).
Peep game.
Music Video of the Year
So, did Rik Cordero direct 15 million music videos or what?
The funny things is… is that I wasn’t particularly wowed by any that I saw. I thought a lot of them were good, Q-Tip’s Renaissance Rap and the Roots’ Birthday Girl are two just off the top of my head that I liked, but nothing that made me go, “WOW!” If you think otherwise, then let me know.
And the Winner is…
Golden Afro Busta Rhymes – Don’t Touch Me
Directed by Rage
This was a no-brainer. Busta and Spliff went all out for this one. Somebody needs to come out with a DVD featuring all of Busta’s music videos. It would be the instant post bar, drunken, put something on, classic!
With that said, I was disappointed with Arab Money.
Honorable Mention:
Beyonce – Single Ladies
I love this video for entirely different reasons than the Busta video.
Erykah Badu – Honey
I don’t really even like the song, but you gotta give it to Erykah for representing the classic hip hop, especially in a clever way like this.
Best Movie
I don’t watch too many movies. Two hours is a big commitment of time. I usually end up reading the synopses of films I want to see on wikipedia.
As such, I’m not going to have a vote here. Nice Rec would be much more qualified to have an opinion here (where you at son?). Maybe there will be an addendum and he will list his favorite films from 2008.
Here are the movies I saw this year:
- Redbelt
- Dark Knight (twice)
- Iron Man
- Pineapple Express (which I just saw today)
Here are the movies I want to see:
- The Wrestler
- Man on Wire
- The Counterfeiters
- Milk
- Benjamin Button
- Burn After Reading
- Frost/Nixon
- The Bank Job
Best XXX movie
I am much more versed in this topic, however. I really enjoy gonzo flicks to features, and think that anything Jules Jordan video puts out is gold. I gained an appreciation for Marc Dorcel films this year, but no film of his could beat out my #1 choice here:
Golden Afro Oil Overload (NSFW) – Another no brainer. Movies like Not Bewitched XXX didnt’ do much for me. I like it when these people shut up and just have sex, which is what they did here, with an all-star lineup.
Honorable Mention: InTheVip (website, NSFW), Slut and Sluttier 8, Casino: No Limit and Tunnel Butts (w/ Ricki White, my pick for Rookie of the year).
Best TV Show
Golden Afro The Wire
This one isn’t even a question for me. The Wire is the best show that ever aired on television, period. Season 5 showed a few chinks in the armor, but it’s still by and large the better than anything out right now. I always chuckle when poeople compare this show to Law and Order, get the fuck outta here!
Honorable Mentions: LOST, Heroes, Life, Desperate Housewives, and The Office
Best Comic Book Series
I am not big on superhero titles, so X-men or Justice League will probably never make this list. I have been pretty partial to Robert Kirkman in recent years.
Golden Afro - The Walking Dead
I don’t want to spoil anything, but this comic almost made me lose my lunch this year. Robert Kirkman came as close as you could get to being comfortable in his tale about a world overtaken by zombies, then turned it on its head. Absolutely amazing.

Honorable mentions: Invincible, Criminal, Fables, Y: The Last Man, and 100 Bullets
*Some of the mentions couldn’t win because I am still behind in reading for those series-Y: The Last Man and 100 Bullets.
Best Wrestler
I don’t watch much other than WWE. TNA is boring. I need to catch up on a few ROH tapes, and maybe get into puro and AAA in 2009.
Golden Afro Chris Jericho

This guy was the reason for one of the best feuds ever with Shawn Michaels this year. Yeah, Shawn was great, but Jericho was the star here. His promos, his actions, were the eyebrow raisers every week. All Shawn Michaels did was react. When you look at the most shocking part of the feud, when Jericho slapped Michaels’ wife, and look at it in the perspective of despicable things that have been done to another person in the WWE (Katie Vick, anyone?), that doesn’t rank up there too high. Yet it still resonated as maybe one of the most memorable moments ever in WWE history.
Honorable Mentions: Santino Morella (hilarious), CM Punk (congrats on the title win), Evan Bourne (this kid is going to be a star once he recovers!)
Most Fertile Girl
Golden Afro Kim Karadashian

Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Dancing with the Stars, countless gossip blog posts, Kim’s visibility was at an all-time high this year. I hate pretty much every single television show she’s ever been on, but she is sure is purty to look at.
I flipped back and forth between putting Kim or Beyonce here, but ultimately decided on Kim K. because I have a thing for ditzy, shallow women. I hope I never become rich, women like that will sap my money dry in a second.
Honorable Mentions: Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Gianna Michaels
