Prolific graffiti writer Daniel Montano was sentenced today to 2 1/2 to 5 years in a state prison, five years probation, a restitution of $232,582 and 2,500 hours of community service.
We don’t talk much about graffiti on the podcast, but we are fans. Previous regulars on the show have been pretty prolific writers here in Pittsburgh. Pete used to go out pretty heavy back in the day and got himself into some trouble. I used to go out a little bit, but I would always get scared like a little punk.
My graff friends are in a rival crew to MFONE (you know how heads be beefin’!), but he was always a decent dude as I knew him in passing. This sentence is beyond ridiculous. I am not saying that he should get away unscathed and I am not here to debate the pros and cons of writing, but 3-6 months in jail and a commitment to clean up all areas he “damaged” hit would have been fine. The problem here is that MFONE kept on going, even after he was constantly arrested. The third time is the charm, I guess.
I do believe that this young man will have a hard time surviving in prison.

P.S. Go listen to Pack FM – Clik Clak Spray, I was going to post the mp3, but I can’t find it. You’ll have to wait for the next regular episode to peep.
