Here is some cool stuff I have been checking out lately.
Zo! and Tigallo – Love the 80′s. Phonte Coleman from Little Brother covers some of your favorite 80′s hits. Nice Rec and I have been bumping this all week. My personal favorite is the cover of Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out.” DJ Selecta played the cover of A-Ha’s Take On Me way back on episode 19.

Generation Kill – I am a die hard fan of anything David Simon puts out. I loved Homicide and I love The Wire. It follows that I love Generation Kill. Based on Evan’s Wrights best selling book, the show follows the first forty days of the Iraq War as seen through the eyes of the first reconnaissance batallion in 2003. These guys were the FIRST guys to enter into Iraq! While this show is much different than the two aforementioned cop shows, there are a lot of parallels between characters (Does anyone see a little Rawls in Lt. Ferrando?). If you have Digital Cable and HBO, it’s OnDemand, so check it out.
Check out the N.Y. Times article on “Generation Kill.’
Christian Sings the Blues – A blog by male porn star Christian Wians (aka Christian X). It’s called “…Sings the Blues” because he complains about the difficulties of having sex with beautiful women all day. Cry me a river, lol. He is somewhat of a pariah because he began his career in gay porn and as a result, some female porn stars won’t work with him. Obviously, there is adult content in there, so tread at your own discretion.
Lone Wolf and Cub vols. 1 and 2 by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima – An assassin for hire travels from town to town with his child, killing people along the way. This series influenced a lot of martial arts and action media to come; the movie “Shogun Assassin” for instance, is an adaptation of Lone Wolf and Club, and therefore is kind of an indirect inspiration for the beginning GZA’s song “Liquid Swords.”
