Episode 110: Crew of the Hour – Diggin’ in the Crates

ditc_tommy_boy_2000_21

The crew called Diggin’ in the Crates, usually shortened up to just D.I.T.C., have been holding it down for years. DJ Nice Rec has compiled their best songs and mixed them into a nice hour long set accompanied by our banter which is some of the silliest yet!

Get it Together!

We just finished recording episode 9o – Group of the Hour: Beastie Boys. It’s a pretty inclusive episode, long-time fans won’t be disappointed. I am not all too well versed on the Beastie Boys myself, so hearing a joint like Flute Loop for the first time was dope! Be on the lookout for the episode come Tuesday/Wednesday.

Once that’s done, we are entering the home stretch for the milestone episode of Episode 100, which will be an all-clips show featuring some of the highlights in the first 99 episodes of the show. What would YOU the listener like to hear? Is there a Jerome or Slim Wilkins joke you’d love to be displayed in all its glory? I am currently tasked with going through all 90 episodes, and believe me, it’s quite a task! For suggestions, you can get at us through e-mail, the addresses are listed on your right, or you can check out the forum!

Speaking of the forum, I just completed a much needed cleansing and upgrade. The downside is that I may have deleted some forum accounts, if you think that you should be on the forum, just re-apply and I’ll get you accepted.

Lastly, here are some promised videos related to episode 89.

Spork Kills (Louis Logic) – Night of the Hip N Dead

Dumbfoundead – Bullets of Truth

Eminem 3 A.M.

Extra credit: Here goes the video for DMX – We Right here, but they wouldn’t let me embed it here on the site.

Broken Computer

broken_computer

I made my grand return to New York City this past weekend after 2 years only to come back and find my computer has malware on it. Yes, my friends, my computer has been afflicted with the logon/logoff loop, and none of the suggested remedies have been able to fix it.

I am going to have to format the computer this weekend, but until then I am out of commission. We have Jeromisode #2 still yet to be uploaded, and as well as another bonus of Nice Rec spinning the jams coming, too. And then, of course, the long awaited Tupac Man of the Hour.

But yeah, that is the reason for the delay. Bear with me.

A Busier Weekend

What’s good?

This weekend went by like a blur. Big shoutout to Slim Wilkins, Sidekick Josh, and Angry Dan for coming through. Let me also give the big fuck you to all three of you because I didn’t get anything I wanted to get done. What did I want to get done?

- Watch season 2.0 of Battlestar Gallactica
- Prepare the next episode of the podcast.

Instead here I am on Monday putting in boku work. Thanks for being assholes, and going hard with me this weekend. Pause.

Before the links and videos an update about the podcast: Episode 84 will be out Wednesday or Thursday. Next week we will have a bonus episode with Jerome playing the selections (Jeromisode #2). Before taking a week off and finally knocking out that Tupac episode.

Without further ado:

Here goes a previously unreleased tape of Biggie’s last party before he died. From all accounts, it looks like heads were getting down. Spotted at Nah Right.

- Did I ever tell you that I love this woman?

kimkardashiancover_2009

For everyone dropping her down a notch because her pics are photoshopped… I am willing to look past a little cellulite. Reggie Bush, I applaud you.

- Prodigy sounds like an idiot 95% of the time, but manages to say something thought provoking the other 5%. His latest blog post is in that 95%.

A snippet:

LISTEN UP, FUCK THE TIGHT EUROPEAN CUT (THEY SELL THAT SAME EXACT OUTFIT IN A XXL OR XXXL), FUCK MASSA, FUCK A BLACKBALL AND A BLACKLIST, FUCK GUCCI, FUCK “SWAGGER,” FUCK ALL YOU SAFE FLAMINGO ASS NIGGAS THAT’S SCARED TO ROCK THE BOAT AND FUCK THAT BOAT TOO. I’LL FLIP THAT BITCH OVER.

Yes, he writes in all caps.

- Max B (formerly of Dipset) sucks as a rapper and will probably go to jail for a very very long time. Still, the dude manages to be entertaining in interviews, and for that reason he gets mention on this blog. Here he is talking on Jim Jones, coming at him about his Christmas album amongst other things (I peeped it, it sucked).

- Ignorance aside, let’s end with a little education from the man known as Chuck D.

D.C. Bound

As you ready this, I will be headed to Washington D.C., our nations capital visit mi madre (it’s her birthday!).

In the meantime, I’ll give some brief thoughts on happenings in the hip hop world right now:

Rick Ross vs. 50 - Pimpin’ Curly be damned, this beef was done the second 50 took the first baby moms out to buy a fur jacket. The cartoons are funny,  but the second baby moms sex tape is overkill at this point. I’ll probably still download, though. Big shout out to dudes keeping beef interesting in 09, but a big gas face to dudes prolonging beef way longer than it should last (see: Ransom vs. Joe Budden).

Kanye lays the smackdown on the paparazzi (again)Kanye is in the midst of a mental breakdown or a life crisis. He has stated in interviews that he now only does shit for him, 808′s and Heartbreak, and the black mullet proved that. He is becoming increasingly irritable and angry. He kind of reminds me of the Taxi Driver… “Here’s a man who would not-listen you fuckers…”

Still, his girl is the finest baldhead lady out there.

SPL81406_003

Good lord is this woman fertile.

Copywrite disses Asher RothCopywrite is still rhyming? This guy gets beat up by everybody and their mother so he picks on a white surbuban kid who has a successful single? Get the fuck out of here Pete nelson. You lost the privilege to dis rappers circa Scribble 2006.

((But yeah, Asher does sound like Eminem-lite. I still think he’s pretty entertaining.  I can’t believe “I Love College” is just starting to get run on radio. I played it as a gits and shiggle over 8 months ago and I was late THEN.))

Nice Rec and I will be back with a regular episode on Wednesday or Thursday.

No episode this week

That REAL IRISH episode we were planning got nixed. Blame it on a miscommunication between McCabe and myself as well as me getting way too fucked up at the strip club the night before (it was my birthday).

The J. Pitts Show will be back next week  with a regular episode chock full of dope new hip hop tunes interspersed with witty banter between the crew. In the meantime, check out the Mike Tyson Documentary trailer.

State of the Blog

n14228933_30875752_3897

That’s an old school pic right there…

What’s good everyone?

We took a week off after the best of 2008 episode so that we could give ourselves some rest after putting out 3 episodes in two weeks, and also to give Nice Rec more time to complete our next episode: Crew of the Hour – Def Squad. We’ll be recording Saturday, and plan to release the episode on Tuesday or Wednesday, as usual.

We’re also going to check out Notorious tomorrow. I initially had very low expectations for this film, but it’s actually getting pretty good reviews. Roger Ebert even gave it 3 out of 4 stars!

In the meantime, check out this interview with DMX from jail. Shout out to Miss Info.

State of the Blog #4

First off, I hope you are enjoying Anything But Rap #1. Ross Reilly really threw me off guard when he sent me the sets, I was expecting something in the vein of what Rob Hart did last year (more indie punk-ish), but this is better than I could have imagined! Me and my arrow…

I have always prided the J. Pitts Show in being able to keep things diverse, and Anything But Rap #2 is no different. Ross will probably get angry for saying this, but the episode felt very “hippie-ish.” I think I could play this for my Father and he would nod his head in the same way that I nod my head anytime I hear new Blu or Royce!

With that said, our next real episode will be No Limit Records. Yes folks, we are going from Madlib to Master P in one fell swoop. Remember what I said about being diverse? We are even going to release an exhaustive gallery of cover art for you to marvel at (Big Bear is just ridiculous).

However, before the No Limit episode we are going to continue our tradition of releasing our Bonus Tur-Funk-En episode. On Thanksgiving you’ll be able to logon to this site and download approximately 30 minutes of DJ Nice Rec spun funk and soul. For those that don’t like our talking, you’ll can skip right past the first few minutes and get right to the music.

As for the rest of the year, we have a few things cooked up. Of course, we have our end of the year Casey Kasem style countdown, but we are also hoping to have a live podcast from a bar sometime next month. You will get to see just how Nice Rec gets down for live crowds. Also, be on the lookout for out next regular episode, which will contain a Binkis Records set, celebrating the music of frontman Jax who died recently. If you’ve never heard of Binkis, just listen, we’ll do them justice, we have been fans for years.

Oh yeah, episode 75 is the Def Squad. Any Redman fans out there?

State of the Blog #3

I love Halloween, it’s my favorite holiday. This year was rather mild compared to the past couple of years. First and foremost, I was the only one of my friends who dressed up in a costume. I straightened my hair a la Katt Williams (big shout out to Lydia for the help!), put on some platform shoes, and went out as some combination of a disco/pimp daddy. If you didn’t know me, you probably wouldn’t think I had dressed up at all, but the effort was there. See the pic above for how my straight hair looked.

Next year, I’m pretty sure I’m going to be Link, but I say this every year and forget. This time I am publicly posting my intentions so that I will remember.

- Episode 067 was recorded this past weekend. It will be out on Tuesday or Wednesday. We run down the events at Scribble Jam, and play some jams. I got especially rowdy with it this time, I am sure you guys will love it!

- Episode 068 may be a regular episode, or it may be our second installment of our Anything But Rap series. Big shout out to Ross, our guest DJ for the episode.

- I just spent the evening writing posts for the week, so stay tuned to the blog, I should have new stuff daily. Maybe even multiple posts.

Chea!
